NOVELTY – Process for obtaining a biocompatible material (I) through the modification of a material formed by alumina, sapphire, boehmite, aluminum oxide hydroxides and/or metallic aluminum, comprises reacting the material with dicarboxylic acid dissolved in an organic solvent. USE – The process is useful to obtain (I), which is useful in orthopedic and odontological implants and/or prostheses (claimed). ADVANTAGE – The process: provides (I), which promotes growth of calcium phosphate crystals on its surface, when in contact with a body fluid, preferably simulated body fluid; is a simple and fast method for modifying bioinert nature of the surfaces into totally biocompatible, rendering biocompatible prostheses, implants and other objects, hence cost effective; and enables the coating of materials used for implants comprised of aluminum oxide hydroxides and even metallic aluminum.
